Pivoting Data

Problem

Your BI tool cannot natively rotate rows into columns, so you must pivot the data in SQL. Count the total number of employees in department 50 and 60, but output them as distinct columns: dept_50_count and dept_60_count.

Database Schema

Table: employees

• employee_id (INT): Unique identifier for the employee.
• first_name (VARCHAR): First name of the employee.
• last_name (VARCHAR): Last name of the employee.
• salary (INT): Employee's salary.
• department_id (INT): Foreign key referencing the department.
